A new and different place to shoot. Although I know a lot of photos are taken here, this was my first time and I will definitely be going back. Especially since I got lost on the way out and went by the gate on Young Street. Wow!

And I couldn’t have had a sweeter or nicer family for my first experience at Point Pleasant Park. Caroline, Kaelan and Isla were a lot of fun and Isla, in a typical two year old kind of way, led us up paths and around corners we might not have otherwise taken. Kaelan was great at capturing Isla’s attention, if only for a split second, by doing such things as pretending a piece of wood was a squirrel and gathering rocks for Isla to throw while we were trying for a sitting family picture by the water. Swimming dogs also helped!

Isla was a little bit serious and I thought she was never going to warm up to me! But eventually she did and my favorite part was when she, at Mom and Dad’s prompting, was showing me how her grandparents and parents smile. You can see a bit of that in the photos!

Last weekends mini sessions in Truro had to be postponed because of the weather. Good news! That means you still have a chance to grab a spot on Sunday April 15 or Saturday April 21! These sessions will be either at Victoria Park or the new trail behind the AC (picture on poster was taken there). I am going to save the beach for the summer mini sessions happening sometime in July.

On Sunday May 6 I have a full session booked at Point Pleasant Park in Halifax and could accommodate 3 more full sessions at say 11:30, 1:30 and 3:30. Let me know if you are interested!

Finally, I am hiring an assistant/possible second shooter for some of my wedding dates in June, July, August and September of this year. If you are interested, forward a resume via email vf@somethingoldsomethingnewphotos.com.

And that is it for today’s news! Hope you all had a wonderful Easter.

Well two things actually: 1) take pictures of Lily in her new coat and the hat that her Rammie knit for her; and 2) take pictures at the new park by the Salmon River crossing from Truro into Bible Hill. Does this park have a name? I don’t know, but I can see weddings being held there this summer. I especially wanted to take pictures there at night, in the snow, by the light of all those lamps. Maybe next year!

Don’t feel too sorry for me. I got to hang out with Lily, listen to her sweet giggle, see her funny faces. I could do that all day long. The best though was when we were through and I thanked her. Her response: “I’m always available”.

At first photobooths were cropping up mostly at weddings, but these days in addition to weddings, people are booking photobooths for private and corporate parties and retreats, children’s birthday parties and any other reason you can dream up! Next time you are planning an event, think about including a photobooth! Every photographer does it differently, I’ll usually try to find an out of the way corner and set up a background and some props. Your guests can pick a prop (or not) and step in front of the background. The booth is manned by a photographer as opposed to being “do it yourself” so we’ll press the button “CLICK” and that’s it. If your guests are like some of the others we have photographed, they’ll come up with some very creative poses. Not all of which can be featured here on my blog!

A couple of Saturdays ago, I was in Halifax as part of an intimate little group of people gathered to celebrate the marriage of Josh and Jess. Josh has been a friend of my son Conor for many years – they have been involved in inprov, sketch comedy, radio shows, writing and acting together, and as roommates. Conor stood as his witness. This was my first time meeting Jess. She and Josh sang to each other, laughed and acted goofy during their wedding photo session. So sweet! I think they’re a perfect match and wish them a long and happy time together!

We postponed this engagement shoot a gazillian times. We wanted just the right conditions and we had lots of time, so why not? Even on this morning it wasn’t a definite go - until those beautiful soft snowflakes started to fall and we knew it was going to be perfect. While we were walking I heard the story of their engagement and why Victoria Park was the perfect place for their engagement photos. Wesley proposed there, at the gazebo, after a scavenger hunt that took Emily around town in the rain. How romantic is that? Romantic enough for a St. Valentine’s Day post, I’d say.

This is something that I look forward to at least once a year. A photo shoot with these three special-to-me little girls (I won’t be able to say little much longer. Olivia turns double digits/jazz hands in April). Other than the obvious, one of the things that makes this so much fun for me is the thought that Lori puts into their total look – head to toe. Emails flew back and forth for weeks before the big day, all with links to contenders for dresses, skirts, shoes, hair accessories, sweaters, jackets, tops. What do you think of this paired with this? Truth told, they were all fabulous and the careful choices that she made contributed to the overall look and feel of the photos. (a mother’s) Love is in the details.

Benjamin brought his whole family to see me, including his cat and dog. I loved it, especially watching the process of Thomas the cat hiding and being coaxed back out. He would only light for a second before taking off again and really wasn’t a big fan of one of my (brilliant) ideas which was to to put him in a suitcase. Guess I need to brush up on my kitty-wrangling skills because I hear there may be an outdoor shoot in the future. I hope so! As you can plainly see, Benjamin is a fun-loving, handsome guy, Abby is beautiful. And Thomas? Well Thomas is King!
